Chodsky Pes – Beautiful and Versatile

Skrevet den

Hello, I’m Heidi from Finland, and I have a Chodsky Pes (Czech Shepherd Dog) named Waldo (Taabernakkelin ZZ Top). Waldo came to live with me when he was 1.2 years old, as my friend’s other dog didn’t accept him into the pack. I got a wonderful gentleman who was already partly trained.

Champion and Show Dog

Waldo and I have participated in many different dog sports, and many of you have probably seen us at dog shows. Waldo has already earned 13 champion titles and 9 winner titles, including World Winner and European Winner.

But he’s not just a handsome boy — he’s also my great training partner!

Training and Achievements

We have achieved FCI-BH, RTK3, FCI-IFH1, LTE and MH, as well as AVO1 in blood tracking and ALO1 in obedience. We also train in NoseWork and forest tracking. So, we’ve done quite a lot, especially nosework. Waldo has also passed the official conformation and character breeding inspections in Finland, and unofficially in the Czech Republic and Sweden for conformation.

The Character of the Breed

The Chodsky Pes is an excellent companion for dog sports, always eager to work, but know’s how to relax. Using its nose comes very naturally, and it enjoys challenges. I’ve really enjoyed training this breed because it’s a lighter type herding dog that gives just the right amount of challenge to the handler. It’s energetic and wants to please its owner. We’ve had the pleasure of competing in three different tracking disciplines — and our journey is continuing!

Tracking Work – From Field to Forest

In field tracking, our biggest challenge has been boredom — the track in trials is very long (about 1800 steps), so sometimes it feels like my gentleman might fall asleep 😊. We’ve focused on precision work in the field by using tiny micro-objects, which are very important to Waldo. Recently, we’ve added some excitement and speed by switching to forest tracking. Unfortunately, we missed a qualifying result by just four points, but the obedience section truly warmed my heart with a score of 93/100 points. It felt like Waldo was just gliding beside me <3

A True Family Member

I haven’t noticed any problems switching between different types of tracking, and blood tracking has also come very naturally to him. So just be brave and try different things whit your Chodsky. Waldo is also a beloved member of our family, always by our side on all kinds of walks and around the yard.

See you around the rings and trails of the world!
